How Education is Sending Graduates Straight to the Job Centre
We have now reached a point in our society where there are far too many people going on to university once they have left school. According to recent reports, as many as 60 graduates are now chasing each position of employment when they eventually graduate and this means that the other 59 unsuccessful applicants would be forced straight along to the job centre
Bearing in mind that tax payers would have funded these degree courses to a certain extent and are then forced to maintain these post graduates when they are forced onto the dole, is it just me or is there something fundamentally wrong with this situation?
One of the main problems is the fact that there are far too many universities today, all offering the same types of courses to students. This has resulted in a very particular class of employer nowadays and many of these freely admit that they reject applications from graduates who have secured less than a 2:1 in their honours classification.
So, the only way forward here would appear to be to cut down on the number of students that are being admitted into universities. This would save a vast amount of money in the economy in the future. Emphasis will also need to be placed on offering courses that are most needed within the economy. For example, there are a number of mathematics and science courses that are not securing the number of students that it should for the country's needs.
